The Center for Agriculture and Humanitarian Aid

Bergquist & Associates / Global has established a foundation, "WaterStone," to support agriculture with humanitarian advocacy programs providing management and technical skills in developing countries of the world. Bergquist & Associates / Global has grown out of the experiences Dennis Bergquist received as coordinator of the Center for Global Education in Agriculture at Ridgewater College, Hutchinson, MN, USA.

Mr. Bergquist has directed educational assignments to 49 countries of the world. These were opportunities to share with farming communities his experience of 26 years on faculty with the Dairy Management program in the Minnesota State College & University system ( MnSCU).

Along the way he has been instrumental in meeting the humanitarian needs of some of those with whom he has come in contact. Bergquist says, "This is just another way of teaching someone how to fish instead of providing handouts to those unwilling to help themselves."

Some of the projects that have been developed over the years:

  • Enhancing the feed, food and fiber production on a local basis
  • Coordinating the delivery of donated equipment, supplies and food
  • Providing instruction and tuition for those with financial need
  • Arranging for housing where seemingly there was none
  • Arranging for medical assistance through intermediaries
  • Assisting orphanage and adoption processes
  • Establishing support staff to administer distribution of goods

Mr. Bergquist's programs have been effective and appreciated, earning him continuing invitations to return where he has ministered before and to other countries where his reputation has preceded his opportunity to visit.

"WaterStone" has been organized to provide the continued services of Dennis Bergquist and others who will join him to help those who need him the most. His tenure at Ridgewater College has allowed many young farmers to become established as sought-after dairy herd managers. He retired from the faculty at Ridgewater College, allowing him to increase his time in the mission of assisting the agricultural community worldwide.

WaterStone seeks to establish "sister farms" in the countries where they work. If you are interested in becoming paired with a farmer in some other land to assist, guide or just share stories we are interested in hearing from you. You may have a part in helping someone who is in need of the experiences you have had. A wide variety of situations need to be addressed, so let us know of your interests and special skills via e-mail:
